grammatical gender would have been a fine concept if they just hadn't tied the genders to masculinity and femininity, like ain't nobody can tell me why a table is a boy and a chair is a girl but they do have different phonetic patterns. would've saved trans folks a lot of trouble if they'd just used a different metaphor for two categories of thing
