The building for the Great Exhibition - the Crystal Palace - was designed by Joseph Paxton. His designs were published in the Illustrated London News in 1850, and copied in regional publications, creating quite a buzz.
At 1,851 feet (564 m) long, with an interior height of 128 feet (39 m), Crystal Palace was three times the size of St Paul's Cathedral.
Remarkably, it was a temporary structure, erected in Hyde Park for the ebhibition & later moved to South London.
