I have come to the conclusion that plaster walls in German style "Altbau" apartments are simply not compatible with any form of modern screws / wall mounting. You just get big wonky holes that can't hold more than 1-2 kg even if you fill the crater with adhesive.
Free standing shelves seems to be the only reliable choice.
