npub1l9sg4v5869prjqweklruygazf4q6c9p8hxv2dmcl4allqyut30asgjqp6s (npub1l9s…qp6s) It's longer than 7 years if the information is subject to a Legal Hold. It becomes something like 15 years from the court judgement or legal settlement date. Reason being, people may rely on that data to go through an appeals process. It's rare, but it happens.

Financial crime and data is how I put food on the table. So my opinion may have bias. But sometimes things that previously flew under the radar (detection and crime always compete with one another) can be found by looking back at historical data. Sometimes that happens by seeing how "this weird loan" was soooo very different from "maaany normal loans" like yours. And that can be vital in establishing a case that puts away human traffickers or helps compensate victims or whatever.

But does that mean everyone/thing in the company should have to access that data for 7 years? Oh hell no!

Access to data must be protected at all costs. More than gold or diamonds. That's why security is top of mind with every decision I make regarding data. Has to be.
