ABC Nostr

About that time of the year when you’re reminded that Taxation is theft

Now the topic we are here discussing tonight -NOSTR- I’m no expert in but like so many of y’all are thankful for the education that’s about to go down here tonight.

Now I was thinking back to when I set up a Myspace or my Mi Hente account (anyone had a mijente) , even as old back as AOL chatrooms, how freeing the experience was to be able to say whatever the hell I wanted to say. In the Myspace example I was able to seemingly create my corner of the internet with background and music and invite people. Not censored post or customization in sight.

But that couldn’t last for long. Once it became valuable to monetize congregation you can drop they stuffed a bunch of intrusive features behind the term “better experience”

W played by their rules, their games.
We saw controversial ideas treated as toxic instead of Something new to explore.
They made billions off our likeness, our creativity, our sauce.
They forced you to monetize on their terms, with their partners.
And if you failed to comply, they can instantly make you or your brand disappear.

The incentives never favored us and they never will.

I’m late on NOSTR usage, but like many in this room, I noticed the power a protocol like this can provide society. Nostr is an open protocol that enables decentralized and censorship-resistant alternatives to social media platforms like Twitter.

Dorsey said so himself in a tweet that it reminds him of the first five days of Twitter.

This means to me that we get a do over to what this social media experience is supposed to be like. Without the threat of one entity owing the entire town square. Without the threat of being used as sheep to be exploited and fed narratives.

So I want to leave you with 2 points before I sign off here
