It's always weird how normies will refuse to take any idea seriously that is not within their approved set of "ideas to take seriously".
Whereas I take pretty much any idea seriously and (if I'm interested enough) investigate it's truth value dispassionately.
I've done this to a variety of weird and/or controversial ideas. For instance, flat Earth theory and Holocaust denial.
Also, when I was a kid, I had heard of a device called a "voice to skull", which could supposedly plant thoughts in people's heads. I wanted to build it to investigate whether it worked or not but I couldn't get a teacher to help me.
