Here's a thread breaking down the salient points in a recent interview with Errol Musk, Elon's dad.
Among other interesting facts, Errol mentions that Elon's maternal grandparents were literally members of a Nazi party in Canada (I assume he means the National Unity Party of Canada, but I can't say for sure), the Musk family was so chummy with P.W. Botha (South African Prime Minister and pro-apartheid stalwart) that Botha's wife and daughter would stay at the Musk place sometimes, and Elon, despite his denials, "knows all about the emeralds".
