npub1trdnqrfstufc45awha43p6xy2n0v6czuhapzh4r09hap08dg0c6s9gussx (npub1trd…ussx) I agree with all of this that vanishing messages do not do what most people expect of them wrt. privacy enhancement. However I still turn them on when possible because they provide me one thing:
A personally trusted endpoint to whom I am communicating cannot by forgetfulness leave more than n days of our chat history on their device, such that if that device is physically opened and read by a third party there is a limit to the amount of my context they obtain.
