It's attractive to think of running rooftop solar to crack water and store hydrogen in it instead. Much more ecologically friendly than a battery full of rare elements from conflict zones. Until you work out that the energy density of hydrogen is about 10kJ/kg, and that massive tank is sitting there embrittling while storing (assuming a very efficient fuel cell at 60%) less than 0.4kWh.
