I too think that would be lovely but it requires that both parties are coming from the same warm and fuzzy place. It appears to me that Tom is simply eristic, and there is too much at stake to allow distraction of this ilk. Either you're voting for a genuinely kind and intelligent person, or for an unintelligent criminal. At this stage, anything else is talking to hear your brain rattle.
