I've said it before but it it's worth repeating, especially in light of this Threads business. A great way to ensure you have a good time on Mastodon/the Fediverse is to do a lot of muting and/or blocking. This goes for individual accounts and whole instances alike.

You don't need to hassle the admins of your instance to block Threads, for example. Just block it yourself. Problem solved! The same goes for those self-absorbed people who keep banging on about [subject you don't care about].
