Insisting that trans women aren't women and that trans men aren't men is very much like insisting that adoptive parents aren't parents. In both cases, yes, there's a disconnect with the biological component that usually makes men and women and mothers and fathers what they are, but people naturally understand that the sociological role is far more important than the biological one-- unless they convince themselves otherwise through dogmatic belief systems and/or closed-minded stereotypes.
