Looking at prices over time, it seems that, until well until the 20th century, the standard loaf of bread used in price indexes weighed 2kg, And in the 19th, there was a "gallon loaf", weighing around 8lb. I'm 67, and loaves have been the same size (about 600g) ever since I was a child. Does anyone know anything about this?
