Haha it wouldn't shock me but it may credit BigOil with too much foresight and power over the techbros. But it's an interesting idea to say the least.
It's all too easy to picture a suit whispering into the ear of a young-idealist about all the gains of defederated currency and AI innovation that would certainly, for sure, far surpass any current costs of the fossil fuel energy it would take to bring about that techno-utopia.
