When we talk about tax evasion we usually focus on major corporations' tax planning activities... but a new National Audit Office report suggest most tax evasion (over 80% by value) is carried out by small firms (often in retail), via various scams not least of all foreign online retailers avoiding VAT.
Moreover, the NAO suggests HMRC has no real strategy for dealing with this problem.
So let's be clear small businesses are often robbing the state, same as the big guys!
