I like having to talk to a lot of NPCs, at least for certain quests, but it bugs me when they require you to talk to EVERYONE without any guidance.
And I agree entirely with the other two. While they may add a sense of mystery and danger to the game, it generally makes the game feel less enjoyable overall.
