For authors in institutions that rely on WoS for filtering what counts as promotion tokens, eLife being included is critical. Turns out there are entire countries where all or most institutions rely on WoS. This is the underlying issue: institutions want a third party to decide which are the bona fide journals, and academics have accepted that, often because the alternative is far worse. Now if only this third party was e.g., OpenAlex instead of WoS, there would be a lot more room for manoeuvring.\n#ScientificPublishing",
