You who are so wise in the ways of science, to quote Monty Python, do you know of any research into when and how humans form their basic ethical values, which then by extension, express themselves in their political ideas?

Assuming that we are not monsters (neither die hard communists nor die hard libertarians or even nazis) what leads one to the collective and one to the individual?
