Don't just take that for granted... not all newer sensors have less noise. Some (I believe stacked BSI sensors) have a faster readout but have more noise.
The Fujifilm X-H2S for example is worse than my X-H1 for noise; however the AF and sensor readout speed is waaaaay better.
I recall I shot a hockey game on either my Lumix G85 or G9 when I had them, at either 12800 or 25600 ISO to test.. and it wasn't as unacceptable as I expected. Running the shutter faster and getting a grainy sharp image is better than a blurry image with slightly less noise, in my opinion.
