it is still wild to me that I got my start with Linux by installing slackware from 100 floppy disks, each painstakingly downloaded over a 56kbps line. As I got more proficient I learned new strategies, such as booting from a boot/root pair of floppy disks and then using a serial cable to spool those zip files into a partition that would become my swap space – I could leave it running overnight and have 100mb shifted in the morning :D
