People probably wouldn't post anything if they didn't want people to reply.
By replying to someone's post, your reply will end up in the feeds of the people that follow you. Which then causes the post you replied to to also appear in the feed of the people who follow you.
So replying also works as boosting. You're helping the author of the post you replied to reach more people
