While it may be possible that some people can go through dramatic changes in 20 minutes, in my experience that is pretty rare. That close to the actual event, I need to get some acknowledgement from the other person that they understand that they hurt me, because my desire at that point is not to give them another opportunity to hurt me further.
There's kind of a "statute of limitations" surrounding an incident where that acknowledgement needs to come in so that we can work through and I can see that profound change. Otherwise, why would I cut them some slack if they're not going to tell me why they hurt me or even acknowledge that they have done so?
