It is odd that the Navy didn't mention the explosion they heard at the same time communication was cut. They may have wanted more confirmation, as the periodic tapping sounds that were thought to be the survivors calling for help ended up being incorrect.

Still it is odd they didn't share that knowledge at least, of having heard a possible explosion.
