Time is precious, we should be intentional with how we spend it.
I waited for my dad every weekend growing up. Sometimes he showed up, sometimes he didn’t.
But when he did, I was with him the whole day. We’d talk, go to museums, go to the zoo, watch movies, go for hikes, and more.
The time I spent with him was quality, and it was separate from parenting.
As a father now, I want to make this time with my kids. But it’s hard - so much time during the week goes to school and work and dinner and baths, and chores, and the million other responsibilities that seem to take time away.
It’s parenting almost the whole time - weekends are only marginally better often filled up by sports and other preplanned activities.
I’m working on setting aside quality time, taking days off to just be with my kids. I know they’ll appreciate the parenting, but I hope to instill some wisdom and fun too, and just be with them.
