If you do go looking for alternatives, I'm currently planning ahead for a similar situation, and thinking about either the Pi CM4 with this https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-compute-module-4-iot-router-carrier-board-mini (and aluminium case) or the Nanopi R2S. Both are well supported by OpenWRT, and supposedly handle gigabit with ease. Just buy a managed switch to go with it.
Obviously I've not tested either myself yet.
