As for artistic and spiritual misfits, over the last decade or so, it's become harder and harder to sustain alternative enclaves in places like Coromandel, Whaingaroa (Raglan), Takaka (Golden Bay), and Marahau. As they're increasingly encroached on by gentrifying councils, serving the interests of an aggressively expanding real estate industry.
