It's because there's a natural carbon cycle in nature. As the same time that carbon gets emitted by natural causes, it also gets absorbed by natural causes.
The problem with the carbon that humans are emitting is where that carbon came from: it was stored deep underground where it was outside of this cycle, which adds the total amount of carbon to the system. And volcano eruptions do make MASSIVE changes to the global climate. They are actually some of the events that trigger those massive changes in the Earth's climate in the past. The difference is that they are one-time events, so after a while, that carbon gets re-absorbed by the Earth, and things start adjusting in the other direction. And I'm pretty sure those memes about individual eruptions emitting more CO2 than all of humanity has wasn't true, but I'd need to find the exact information.
