Even in the UK where there are viable 3rd parties they never have a chance of getting power. The US doesn't even seem to acknowledge that more than 2 parties could exist.

With pretty much any proportional system extreme views couldn't gain enough traction to cause much damage.

Problem is the only people who can change the system are the people who benefit.
