When it comes to that, I think about it in a different way, that of, what I like to think of as, an archaic constrast between good and and evil. The "archaic" inventors of such a contrast ideology concluded that good must, overall, be more beneficial.
If, for example, Satan's realm [of hell] includes torture, hate, and dissatisfaction, then the superior realm of God (viz. Paradise/heaven) surely includes mutually-beneficial cooperation/understanding (sometimes simply called love) and happiness.
Before the popularisation of the common law, we had communities that thrived on this (and still do)- on opting for God over Satan. It was a standard that was as basic and easy to grasp as it needed to be to keep societies intact.
