I got into technology because I believed in what it could have been, what sci-fi books told me it _could be_ (and, critically, what it should **not** be) and ultimately left over the bitterness of that disconnect.

Tech was supposed to free us and it has instead been used to control us. Predicable in hindsight but I was not taught enough about the history of labor in the US (also not surprising, given how education works here) for me to have known that it wouldn't turn out any other way.
