I wrote to our local native plant group asking about the paper lantern seed pods I sometimes see here. The pods look like cape gooseberry, but if you open them, they just have a tiny seed, not a delicious berry. The only answer I've gotten so far is that it's probably in the Solanum family; a web search suggested it might be a ivyleaf groundcherry, in the same genus as cape gooseberry.
Speaking of solanum, a pretty little nightshade has sprouted up in the rocks outside our bike shed.
