You do [need to wait] if you want to see "bleeding edge remakes".
As a fan of the series, both video and printed, the "correct order" to view Dune in is
Lynch's Dune (movie)
Dune (first book)
"Czech" Dune series(3 episodes)
Dune Messiah (book 2)
Children of Dune (book 3)
"Czech" Children of Dune series (3 episodes)
remainder of the F.Herbert Dune books:
God Emperor of Dune
Heretics of Dune
Chapterhouse: Dune
Then the rest of the books.
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(franchise).
Frank Herbert died after book 6 and the story was completed and infilled by his son Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. They wrote
* an immediate prequel trilogy
* a far prequel trilogy
* then the rest of the story
within the last added titles, it seemed clear that Herbert/Anderson were doing machine writing. The series ends with a relative and immense anticlimax that tends to confirm that about a book's worth of material was just gratuitous infill, and all the books written after the "final chapter" were just "give us more money"s that added little.
I read them in the order they were written, not according to the supposed timelines they covered.

Lynch didn't like the version he made for the Di Laurentiises; he turned his back on it. But for those who had not read the book, the movie was good in itself. All the nasty comments concerned the movie's faithlessness to the book. The "Czech" version was more faithful to the books, but not by a great lot. ["Czech" because the SyFy version used a large number of Czech actors, including the famous Barbora Kodetová [imo the best "Chani" we've ever seen.]]
If you care at all about Dune lore, you need to have watched both those: Lynch's movie, then the 3 dune + 3 children of dune episodes. [episode 1 of the children series is the book 'dune messiah'.]
But hey: familiar actors, and the scores for the Czech series were inspiring.

I'm not sure they'll ever be able to do the books justice. They could do something as extensive as the potter movies to capture the whole story, but the movies would all be dense (>150 minutes each.) A fair amount of Anderson/Herbert infill blithering could be removed.
