It's a shit system though in practice. In an ideal world, service workers wouldn't need to rely on tips and then they could actually function as a motivator to go over-the-top. In reality, service workers typically suck dick and expect you to tip regardless as a requirement so eating out is completely unaffordable now. Almost everyone I know stopped going to restaurants. I don't know how any of them are staying open.
