Trump swept all of this aside with a simple assertion of Presidential power, i.e., that of the tariff, a power that has been uncontroversially entrenched in the Executive since Day One of the Republic. His opponents have no credible counter to this and Trump's first term already proved the efficacy of this approach. He is reminding us that he does not have to resort to secret powers and dark projects like his predecessors.
