For as long as I can remember, I have often woken up with a song in my head. It's kind of a game to try to figure out the reason for any particular song. (Usually, I have no idea.) Today I've had "A Day in the Life" by the Beatles in my head ever since I woke up.
Some possible connections: I've been reading the book *How to Change Your Mind: What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence* by Michael Pollan. It's fascinating.
Coincidentally, and independently, I've been listening to talks given by Ram Dass from the 70s through the 90s, some of which have to do with psychedelics (he and Timothy Leary were famously fired from Harvard for controversy related to psychedelics).
So it occurred to me today, I wonder if we would have had this brilliant song were it not for psychedelics...
