I notice traditional German pastries & pies look much thinner than American styles, in a good way! More natural flavoring, less overuse of breading? For example, this vid I watched made a thinner apple pie from a recipe from a couple hundred years ago that layered the apples in a sheet. Basically, each slice was ready to manage and pick up, more delicate than the American styles. 
Anyways, these all look so much tastier than store-bought stuff
