Drum circle at Punta Borinquen. Fun fact, the movie Lord of the Flies from the 1960s was partially filmed at this beach.
All of Punta Borinquen (Borinquen, Ruins, Wildo) is one of my favorite places in the world. It truly is a special place, it reminds me how amazing nature is when it is unadulterated with strip malls and other fiat minded crap. This area of Aguadilla is very personal for me as well: time seems to be suspended here and I think of my boys when they were much younger running around the sand, and the early days of when I moved to PR in my late 20s.
It truly was a leap of faith, not really having a set plan when I got here. Crazy to think of all that has passed since then. Businesses started and ended, hurricane Maria, pandemic, all that has occurred at Lift Foils, watching my boys grow up from babies to teenagers, watching my love for my wife get fortified through all of the life’s trials and tribulations.
I’ve seen lots of people from the mainland come and go over the years. Lots of Act 20 people in the past 5 years. PR is a special place, but it’s not for everyone. The amount of inefficiencies that are inherent to the island drive most out after the initial novelty of living in paradise wears off. Learn to live between the lines and accept that PR is never going to “get it together” like a state in the US, learn some Spanish, and life here isn’t so bad. Will I be here in another 10 years…not sure. But regardless, PR will always hold a special place in my heart
