Here around the Charleston SC lowcountry, we have very similar related recipes which are generally less spicey hot and tend toward Old Bay vs Cajun seasoning.
For example, our Hop n Johns aka Cajun Black Eyed Peas are made with small red field peas (instead of black eyed peas) and onion (instead of the Holy Trinity).
Same with our Shrimp n Grits which is a variation of Etoufee.
