Was excited to share a local radio episode with normie friends about down to earth takes on economics and bitcoin.
During the chat I realized the show is not using podcasting 2.0 and mentioned that.
They asked what is it.
I gave my take, and one said: isn't spotify canibalizing everythting anyway?
So i explained, it's not even a competition, not same niches. Podcasts (except exclusive deals) are free by default. There is only upside:
- podcaster can cast a wider net now with flexible monetization and clear money-based signals
- listeners can finally reciprocate for what they heard
Fell on deaf ears. Silence. Maan, people really like the Subscribe* button. It is so enticing and everything challenging it is dead in the water for them. They flock to things when there is mass, but never dare to click something through when a friend shares it.
* overpaying to a middleman and supporting the fiat marketing-based anti-culture complex.
At least the steak yesterday was good.
