The There is a classic episode of The Honeymooners (1955–56) where Ralph Kramden gives his wife Alice a bowling ball bag for Christmas. She patiently explains, as if he doesn’t know, that she doesn’t bowl, doesn’t own a bowling ball, and therefore has no need for a bag in which to carry one. Ralph immediately, and predictably, proceeds to ask if he can borrow hers since she has no apparent use for the one she now owns.
