i've talked a bit about this before. 'show, don't tell' is valuable advice for beginners, but eventually you reach a point where you outgrow it. if you dramatize literally everything, you'll have spewed out 1000 pages before you get to anything important. some things, you need to summarize. the higher level skill is developing the judgement to decide what to show, and what to tell.
