The ads are just a major annoyance to me, as it seems quite stupid to me to pay money for the privilege of seeing more ads, the whole idea about ads was to be a way to sustain "free" (as in beer) software/platforms.

I'd personally prefer to use something simpler and self-host that, like #Forgejo, or even just use email-based git, but sadly the average developer cannot comprehend using something other than GitLab or GitHub in the current day and age.
