I think I've just worked out what it could be.

Unfortunately I'm on the bus home and I can't fix it remotely as I turned the damn thing off before I left just in case. I don't trust misbehaving firmware when there's a risk of "thermal incidents".

With any luck, someone will be in early tomorrow to turn it on, they can test my theory and I can then fix it remotely and then go back to bed.
