Made it to San Salvador today after spending 5 days in El Zonte, and I must say that so far, El Salvador has really been rubbing me the right way.

While El Zonte was beautiful and San Salvador has pleasantly surprised me thus far (and let's not forget the pupusas), it's the El Salvadoran people that have stood out the most. They're just kind people.

Here's an example:

Today a few hostel friends and I were leaving the hostel and a pickup truck with a large family was blocking the path/street. We could've awkwardly slipped by, but we had nowhere to be so we just waited and watched this family of maybe 8-10 people pile into this pickup (bed included).

I noticed there was a piñata in the bed and commented on it to my friends that it was cool. One of the older women told us they were going to her grandson's birthday party (this lady had also cooked me delicious pupusas 2 days in a row, but I digress).

We all exclaimed that it was cute and that it seemed fun.

Then one of the older men in the bed of the pickup said "vamos" with a small hand gesture as if he were talking to us.

I responded "nosotros?" clarifying if he were actually talking to us, and he said yes.

He wasn't joking with us or anything, completely serious about telling us to hop in the back of the pickup with them.

We were all leaving El Zonte in a couple hours so we unfortunately had to decline the invite. But it completely surprised all of us that a family we literally encountered on the street straight-up invited a bunch of random gringos to their grandson's birthday party!

Bummed to have missed out on a unique traveling experience, but based on this and other interactions with the locals, I'm sure it'll happen again
