The product they all serve is not the algorithms, it's communication. Being able to send a dickpic to a friend, basically. Nobody has ever loaded an application to marvel at the beauty of dickpic-sorting algorithm.
Nobody actually cares about algorithms, protocols, frameworks and all that nonsense. Those are technical details only nerds like us are interested in. They can as well use the same protocol, and in user's eyes, literally nothing changes. What matters is the communication itself and its format. And more opportunities at communication (which includes also opportunities at excommunication) is always better for the end user, because that's what we have the Internet for. Holding people hostage and denying interoperability kinda defeats the whole purpose of the Internet, and breaks it.
