1. One reason to get rid of the home button was to go full screen
2. Getting rid of ports/buttons initially was about getting a P68 rating
Keeping a full screen remains the same value so I don't see changing direction on that. But button tech has improved (mounting and capacitive sensing) so watre/dust ingress is no longer a problem.
Techniques change, previous decisions can morph.
