They don't call them "Jumping Cholla" for nothing. I don't think they literally jump, but it sure seems like it. I took a stroll down the road and took some pics. All of them I see in the nearest patch are Chain Fruit Cholla. Big ones are maybe 12 ft tall. One even had a Cactus Wren who thought he could get away with building a nest in it, and welp- you can see how that worked out. I've heard of horseback riders being thrown into CHolla and dying, and have personally seen Coyotes who got tangled in them and died.
