public universities are a really good example of this as well. you become tenured by what you choose not to say. you can study whatever niche and unimportant or imaginary topic you want, and dominate that extreme specialty to a comical degree, as long as you don’t forward hard systemic problems to the board or incite any change at all.
if you’re an intelligent employee I can’t emphasize how important it is to hide this fact from your employer.

incompetence rises in organizations because of its problem & confrontation-avoidant nature.

whoever is at the helm will likely (unconsciously) surround themselves with yes men & incompetence, because they handle (censor) problems before they escalate rather than surface and contend with them, paradoxically making them seem competent.

it’s the path of least resistance every time. you get to choose what problems you solve in this life & most people do not want to engage with difficult problem sets.

basic rule of thumb is the larger the bureaucracy, the more slow & helpless & retarded
