generally we wanna support the phones that people already have, not the one they might buy used in 2 years.
It's a losing game regardless, with the shear volume of smartphones being pumped out... Plus so many other factors like availability for hacking (most folks work on the device they already have too, spending hundreds of dollars on a new phone just to hack on is not an easily afforded luxury).
