I'd imagine it's pretty hard to avoid pork (which I didn't know you could actually be allergic to) in Asia.
Not discounting ethical/religious/health concerns with it, but pigs are very, very efficient animals, and a lot easier to "farm" than cows.
But also, so are chickens.
